Mexicali: Prosperous, safe and business friendly

Metropolitan Mexicali’s 1.2 million people enjoy among the highest urban standards of living in Mexico, largely because of its vibrant, diversified economy. In addition to being the state capitol of Baja California, the region’s canal linkage to the Colorado has created one of the most productive agricultural regions in Mexico.

But more recently, prosperity has multiplied as Mexicali has lured major facilities from global companies such as Honeywell, Mitsubishi, Bosch, united technologies, Kenworth, Coca-Cola, Kellogg, Nestlé, Price Pfister, Selther, Paccar, Vitro, Skyworks Solutions, CareFusion, Gulfstream, Jumex, Bimbo, and Sabritas.

Mexicali is on average one of the most prosperous, safest large cities in Mexico, removed from narcotics trafficking routes that have increased crime in other border manufacturing centers such as Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez. Its culturally diverse population not only welcomes Americans, but itself contains Mexico’s highest concentration of residents of Chinese descent.

U.S. professionals working in Mexicali enjoy expatriate benefits such as lower taxes and cost of living. And Baja California provides offers not only Sunbelt sunshine, but enticements including surfing or snowboarding – in the same day – Colorado River water sports, snorkeling and diving in the crystalline Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean, and desert thrills such as off-road vehicle riding and racing.
